Gibson Builders, along with GTM Architects, were hired by a local family to renovate the historic Owl's Nest in Washington, DC. Built in 1897 and situated on 2 acres, the Owl's Nest was designed as a "modern country dwelling" with a unique exterior design including rugged stone pillars and arches, a stone turret, dormer, oriels and a porte cochere, all covered with a shingle roof of pale green. The renovation included a complete restoration of the original estate and the addition of approximately 4,500 square feet of new space added to the rear of the existing home. The main focus of the new addition involved adding new spaces typical of today's family, including a new family room, home office, butler's pantry, spacious "eat-in" kitchen, a generous master bedroom/bathroom suite, a two car garage, an elevator and a new second stair case.
